Durability variations in reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete (RAAC) – extended abstract

چکیده

Reinforced Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC) was a very common form of construction in the UK and elsewhere 1970s, many buildings are now coming to end their design life. Although much is known regarding new RAAC (and AAC), concerns exist durability, hence current structural integrity 40-50 year old panels, which use critical infrastructure such as hospitals, schools government buildings. Anecdotal evidence preliminary site observations suggests that there considerable variation material properties between different within same structure, across structures, locations ages. The aim this research therefore investigate understand variability surface resistivity, sorptivity, permeability, compressive strength, density single 2400mm panel, amongst panels from expected demonstrate performance, will have significant implications for repair, monitoring management these infrastructure.

Fibre reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete studied by computed tomography

The production process of fibre reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete results in a preferential orientation of the fibres. The fibre orientation largely influences the strength and the deformation behaviour of this building material, therefore information on the fibre orientation is highly desirable. Computed tomography measurements allow for the non destructive investigation of the material. ...

Numerical simulation for the drying shrinkage of autoclaved aerated concrete

A mathematical model for the description of drying shrinkage of autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) is presented, bringing together the hygrothermal and mechanical considerations. The verification of the model is done using an approximation of a real laboratory experiment. Then, the applicability of the model is demonstrated by a numerical simulation of drying shrinkage and wetting expansion of A...

An Attempt to Reduce Materials Cost of Autoclaved Aerated Concrete Production

Background: Municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) bottom ash contains a not insignificant amount of metallic aluminum, while circulating fluidized bed combustion (CFBC) fly ash is rich in active SiO 2. To reduce the materials cost of autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) production, these two types of solid waste could theoretically be used as the aerating agent and silica source, respectively....

Durability of Fiber Reinforced Concrete of Marine Structures

The usefulness of fiber reinforced concrete (FRC) in various civil engineering applications is indisputable. Fiber reinforced concrete has so far been successfully used in slabs on grade, shotcrete, architectural panels, precast products, offshore structures, structures in seismic regions, thin and thick repairs, crash barriers, footings, hydraulic structures and many other applications. This p...

Marine Durability Characteristics of Rice Husk Ash-Modified Reinforced Concrete

This paper addresses the potential use of Rice Husk Ash (RHA) as a cementitious material in concrete mixes. RHA is produced from the burning of rice husk which is a byproduct of rice milling. The ash content is about 18-22% by weight of the rice husks. Research has shown that concrete made with RHA as a partial cement substitute to levels of 10% to 20% by weight of cement has superior performan...
